The Hairy Lemon Dublin Review – photos, menu and a video tour of the Irish pub with unique character in Ireland.
The Hairy Lemon Dublin Review
The Hairy Lemon Dublin is a unique Irish pub right in the heart of Dublin City Centre in Ireland, located on Stephen Street Lower, just a short walk from Grafton Street and St. Stephen’s Green.
The unique name is that of one of the city’s great characters – a legendary dog catcher with a lemon shaped face and apparent hairy stubble or stubble of gooseberry. He was one of the famous Dublin characters who’s legend lives on thanks to the well known pub.
It may not be one of Dublin’s trendiest pubs at the moment, but the 19th century house is well worth the visit.
You’ll find years of memorabilia adorning the walls and ceilings, making you feel like you’re stepping through history as you make your way around the building, admiring the artifacts as you go.
Their upstairs venue often hosts events and musicians, so keep an eye on their social media for the latest news.
An interesting fact is that the pub also features in the Irish film “The Commitments”. Here’s a look at the trailer of the block buster film where you can spy a few scenes shot in the pub.
Traditional Irish Pub Menu
The pub opens from 10am, 7 days a week, serving up breakfast daily from 10am to 12pm and then a full menu featuring plenty of Irish classics such as Irish stew, homemade beef and Guinness pie and bangers and mash, as well as a great selection of beer and wine the rest of the day.
I happened to be there for breakfast and there’s a choice of a full Irish breakfast, vegetarian breakfast and a selection of other egg breakfast dishes.
As I was planning on a meaty lunch (a cottage pie from another Dublin pub that I’ll be sharing details of soon), I went for the vegetarian breakfast, to balance my eating for the day.
The plate was overflowing with hearty breakfast goodies including eggs, baked beans, tomato, chips, mushrooms and hash browns.
Of course there was also the obligatory toast and plenty of Irish butter too.I thoroughly enjoyed my tasty vegetarian breakfast plate, it was served by friendly staff who were helpful during my visit. I look forward to going back again soon to try more menu items.
